Do you ever come across a memory or phrase that makes you remember something you thought you forgot about? Out of nowhere you have to return to a few years back to engulf yourself into the memory.
The other night I was looking through old photos to send in for the music slideshow at our concert and I found a picture from October of 2004 of my mom and I. We were out on a field trip with my Pre-K class at an orchard, or hay maze, or other fall activity site and had taken the cutest picture together.
This photo threw me back to when I was young with mom. Going through the old pictures reminded me of all the little things. The times she would watch all the neighborhood kids as we went sledding down the hill in the backyard. Or the costumes she would make for my brother and I and we would all go trick-or-treating together.
Then I remember her eclectic music taste. From “Pan¡c at the Disco” to “Nickel Creek” or “Matchbox 20” and all the other artists we would listen to on a Saturday spent cleaning the house.
Out of nowhere I remember “The Lighthouse’s Tale,” a song written by “Nickel Creek,” and the first thing I do is go buy the ENTIRE album on iTunes.
I forgot how much I love Nickel Creek. Their songs are so simple, and yet the harmonies are developed beautifully. An added bonus, “Out of the Woods,” “The Fox” and “When You Come Back Down” were all songs on the album I bought.
The album took me back just like looking through all the old photographs did. Each song or picture digging up a different memory from who can remember how long ago.
Here are some links to the songs in the album I bought:
